What to do in Folkestone

The Warren coastal walk, Folkestone Folkestone successfully blends its role as an important cross-Channel link to France with that of a popular English seaside resort. The Clifton Hotel in Folkestone, with its central position on the Kent coastline, makes an ideal base for a stay in this beautiful and historic area. Being centrally located on the Kent coast, Folkestone is an ideal base for daily excursions to surrounding places of interest.

Entrance to the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone Folkestone itself has many attractions. The Leas Cliff Hall, just 50 yards from the Clifton’s main entrance, provides a wide variety of orchestra and star concerts throughout the year, catering to all tastes. The Leas Cliff Hall Web site provides a full list of forthcoming events.

A couple of hundred yards along the cliff-top is Folkestone’s outdoor bandstand, where many an hour on Summer Sundays can be spent relaxing in the sun, listening to the open-air concerts.

Just beyond the bandstand is the new Metropole Arts Centre reputedly one of the finest galleries to be found outside London.

Folkestone harbour Walk or take the cliff lift down from outside the hotel to the beach area. Turn right towards the Sandgate Riviera where you will find a wonderful array of antique shops, restaurants and cafe-bars. The Coastal adventure park is also a firm favourite with younger members of the family.

In Folkestone itself the harbour provides lively points of interest. You can catch the fishing fleet returning to harbour to sell their catch at the harbour-side fish market. Narrow old cobbled streets lead up from the harbour through the burgeoning Artists' Quarter to the town centre, which is also within a few minutes walk of the hotel.

Annual events include the Folkestone Carnival, the increasingly popular Folkestone Literary Festival and the Euro Militaire Exhibition.

For the energetic we will be happy to provide advice on local sports facilities which include a number of well-maintained golf courses, an outdoor ski slope, squash and tennis facilities, and saunas and sunbeds at the Folkestone Sports Centre.
